Hanger Units

Bearing hanger units are bearings in housings that attach to hanger rods. This type is suitable for moderate to medium loads and can be hung from above or mounted from the side. They are often attached to drive and screw-conveyor shafts, and are used extensively in agricultural applications, automotive and aircraft assemblies, and marine driveshafts as well as in materials conveying. The bearings in this range of bearing hanger units are rotational and replaceable, and the housings are a one piece cast iron design. The range includes both BSP and metric threads and sizes.

To identify the precise hanger bearing you require take note of the shaft diameter and thread, the bearing style (for example a plain or rolling element), and the inside and outside diameters.

Other Types of Hanger Bearings

Enquire with Simply Bearings if you would like us to locate other variants of hanger units for you. For example, self-aligning spherical roller bearings, typically with two rows of rollers, are required in some applications. For extra heavy load scenarios other ways of suspending the bearing can be used instead of threaded rods. There are also bearings designed for two-piece bolted housing units, or made from a variety of other materials ranging from wood and thermoplastic to bronze and stainless steel. Stainless steel, for example, is often favoured in food processing environments and wood is sometimes still preferred where there is exposure to abrasive material or chemical slurries. Ceramic bearing inserts, which are quiet and long-lasting, can also be sourced if required.

Also note that this RHP range accommodates metric and BSP threaded hanger rods. Some (mostly American) rods are NPT or NPS threaded and are pitched at 60 instead of 55 degrees. While it is often physically possible to attach BSP housings to NPT rods, or vice versa, the strength of the connection will be impaired (and damaged) so this is extremely inadvisable in load bearing scenarios.

About RHP

Although taken over in 1990 by Japanese company NSK, RHP is formed of three venerable British companies; Hoffman Bearings of Chelmsford (founded 1898), Ransom and Marles of Newark (founded 1900), and Pollard Bearings of Ferrybridge (founded 1919). They therefore apply more than 120 years of experience and innovation into their bearing manufacture.

Lubrication

As with all bearings continuous lubrication is important. All the bearing units in this range are equipped with grease nipples for regular relubrication. Sealed self-lubricating bearing inserts can also be located. Simply Bearings staff are available to help at all times and we offer rapid dispatch, post free on most items delivered within the UK.
