EPDM X Rings

Simply Bearings is one of the UK's leading suppliers of replacement parts for industrial plant and automotive machinery for domestic and commercial use in the United Kingdom. Our competitively priced and extensive array of products stocked in our state-of-the-art warehouse facility in Lancashire includes EPDM X rings.

EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer) is a synthetic rubber that is suitable for a broad range of applications across industry. Ethylene content varies from around 40 per cent to 80 per cent, and the higher the ethylene content, the more durable the rubber. EPDM can withstand temperatures from as low as -50c to as high as 125c.

The four-lobed design of quad rings provides twice the sealing surface in comparison to a standard O-Ring. The double-seal action requires less compression to maintain an effective seal. This reduced compression results in less friction, longer seal life and a lower risk of twisting

EPDM rubber is widely used for X rings across industry because of its very high level of resistance to ozone, temperature variations and weather. EPDM also exhibits good resistance to steam and polarised substances, and it is a strong electrical insulator. These qualities make EPDM oil seals the perfect choice in situations requiring handling, transport or storage of ketones, water or varying temperatures, alkalis and hydraulic fluids.

On the other hand, the chemical structure of EPDM makes it largely incompatible with hydrocarbon-based fuels such as gasoline, kerosene and oil, along with strong acids and halogenated solvents. EPDM X rings are therefore excellent for applications where nitrile or Viton synthetic rubbers would not be chemically appropriate, and vice versa.

To view the specific chemical resistance ratings of any of the EPDM oil seals and X rings that we stock, click the link entitled ""Chemical Resistance Table to access a searchable list of chemicals and how they interact with that specific X ring. X ring chemical compatibility is rated from 1 for Excellent to * for Totally Unsuitable in order to help you locate the correct product to complete the job safely.
