K Section Poly V Belts

K section Poly V belts have a ribbed surface with provides a larger contact area than standard V belts or flat belts. This makes them ideal for applications where space is tight but there is a requirement for a high speed drive, as these belts can transmit greater power than a flat belt of the same width and length. You don't need a stepped pulley, and if you use a serpentine belt configuration, one belt can drive several accessories.

The belts are available in different section types - J, K, L and M. These are K section Poly V belts which consist of an endless, single belt with V-shaped ribs. The ribs fit exactly into the V grooves in the pulleys, and this delivers ultra-strong traction and grip, compared to a flat belt or an ordinary V belt.

This is because the Poly V belt is constructed as a single unit which has an uninterrupted and completely supported tension member. This allows the drive load to be distributed evenly across the entire width of the sheave. You don't have to grapple with a number of separate belts, so you eliminate the problems of belts interfering with each other, turning over, grabbing and slipping.

The Poly V belts can handle 40:1 speed ratios, yet still track properly without the need for special guides, deep grooves, flanges or crowns. Speed ratios can be maintained more consistently, and output speed kept at a more uniform level, because the Poly V belt doesn't seat in the grooves as easily as other belts.

The belts are very robust, resisting abrasion, ozone, heat and oil and conduct static. Quieter than flat belts, Poly V belts also use less energy.

Size and pitch

The cross section profile is thinner than with standard V belts, so it's possible to use smaller pulleys. You can get an approximate calculation of the belt's width if you multiply the number of ribs by 3.56 mm. That figure is the pitch on these belts - the distance from the base of one tooth to the base of the next one.

Lengths will usually range from 630mm to 3021mm, equivalent to an imperial range of 24.8" to 188.9".
