Triplex Platewheels

Platewheels, also sometimes called sprockets, hubless sprockets, or chain gears, are used to guide and support chains to keep them on their intended path. Normal sprockets will tend to have a boss (gap) on one side which may constrain the function. Platewheels are able to fill this gap and thus allow the designer/operator to add the attachment of their choice to the system.

Platewheels operate in a similar way to V-belts or V-pulleys, although they are clearly different in-terms of construction. The main difference is the presence of teeth/cogs that are able to transmit torque. This makes them extremely useful in a range of applications. Platewheels can be used with torque limiting devices, fitted onto a flanged boss, or be bolted into place. Due to their construction, Platewheels are also ideal for use with a roller chain. Platewheels are commonly found in motorbikes, bicycles, and other applications and devices that utilise a chain-drive mechanism.

Triplex Platewheels are specifically-designed to suit British Standard triplex roller transmission chains.

Here at Simply Bearings, we stock Triplex Platewheels from leading brands such as Challenge Power Transmission, Dunlop, Codex, Power Drive, and Drive-Flex. The Triplex Platewheels we stock are made of C45 steel and have hardened teeth. Despite this, the plate wheels can still be drilled or machined as needed.

We sell affordable, high-quality Triplex Platewheels in various sizes, pitches, and teeth options. The number of teeth ranges from 8 all the way to 125, and chain pitch sizes from 3/8"(9.525mm) to 2" (50mm).
