HRC Coupling Assemblies with Natural Rubber (Most Common Applications) Insert

HRC coupling assemblies with natural rubber inserts are suitable for a wide range of transmission coupling applications. They are used in electric motors, hydraulic machinery, agitators, fans, conveyors, pumps, wood-turning equipment, milling machines, paper mills, crushers and compressors. Although accurate alignment of the coupling is important, the high-quality rubber inserts are very effective at absorbing shock and vibration.

The assemblies in this section consist of two interlocking flanges which are attached to the shafts by means of bushes that are sold separately, and a buffering insert of a durable and hard-wearing compound based on natural rubber.

These ordinary rubber inserts are reliable between about -15 to +70 degrees Centigrade. If fire or static hazards are a significant risk in your intended application, consider F.R.A.S. certified coupling assemblies based around chloroprene inserts instead (available in another section of the catalogue). Replacement rubber and chloroprene inserts are also available separately.

Our HRC coupling assemblies with natural rubber inserts are divided into six sub-categories according to the preferred shaft attachment strategy. The flanges available are either ready-machined for an outward facing tapered locking bush, an inward facing tapered locking bush, or with only a pilot bore so that you can complete the machining according to your own requirements. The bushes are sold separately so that the same coupling assemblies can be adapted for a range of shaft diameters.

The flanges can be mixed and matched. For example, one side can have an inward tapered bush fitting so that the bush can be fitted from the "inside" of the coupling and the other could be outward tapered so that the bush fits in from the outer side. When tapers are wide end inwards, the flange is referred to as an "F type" (F for "flange"), and when they are narrower end inwards, they are "H type" (H for "hub"). If they are simply pilot bored, they are denoted "B types". For your convenience the six subcategories consist of F/F, H/H, B/B, F/H, F/B and H/B flange combinations.

For clarity and to confirm dimensions, always consult the cross-sections provided under the "Technical" tab within individual product descriptions.

If you are attempting to design shaft couplings for a particular project, charts are available indicating the power transmission capabilities of different types and widths of coupling. Bear in mind that if your machinery is subject to mechanical shocks and vibrations, a heavier-duty coupling will be sensible compared to that needed for a smooth running motor. Accurate alignments also serve to minimise vibration or pulsing tendencies in the assembly. The couplings we supply are therefore guaranteed for their accurate machining.

This modular construction facilitates easy assembly and maintenance, and the intermeshing teeth of the two flanges ensure that your shaft coupling will be fail-safe in operation.
