Inner Facing Taper Bore-Pilot Bored F/B Type Tyre Drive Coupling Assemblies

These shaft coupling assemblies have excellent tolerance to vibration, shock, misalignment and moderate torques in all directions.

The three main components of these inner facing taper bore/pilot bored F/B type tyre drive coupling assemblies are the central tyre and the two opposing flanges, one machined with an inner facing taper to house the shaft attachment bushing and the other flange with a pilot bore to guide on-site machining for the attachment method of your choice. The bushings are not included in the package; instead, they should be chosen independently for the preferred fitting and shaft sizes.

To assemble, first fit the external clamp rings over each of the shaft ends; next, use a torque wrench to secure your taper lock bushes. A vernier or tape measure should be used to move the shafts to the correct distance from each other, which is important to optimise the coupling for tolerance of float and misalignment. Next, insert the intervening backing plates and their bolts. These bolts are left loose until the tyre has been fitted. Ensure that the tyre is fully seated into the grooves in both opposing flanges (large tyres may be assisted with a rubber mallet if necessary), and then the clamping rings may be tightened to secure it in place. It is normal for a 2mm gap to remain between the edges of the split tyre, or as much as 10mm with the largest tyres.
