SKF Speedi Sleeve: The quickest and most sensible way to repair a worn shaft. The Speedi sleeve range offers the opportunity to repair seal counter faces on shafts without prior dismantling or machining of the equipment and once fitted offers superior surface and sealing characteristics often outperforming the original life span of the shaft. Speedi Sleeves are designed to repair shafts where oil seals run. The sleeve is sufficiently thin-walled (.011" or 0.28 mm) to allow the same size of seal to be used. The Speedi-Sleeve® is made of high quality stainless steel SAE 304. The surface is wear-resistant and machined without directionality to a finish of Ra = 10 to 20 micro inches or 0.25 to 0.5 µm. Benefits: No dismantling of equipment, longer life cycle, cost effective. Note: Speedi sleeves are only suitable for repairs where an oil seals needs to run, they cannot be used to repair damage where a bearing fits onto a shaft.
Installation Instructions: 1. Wipe the surface where the seal contacts the shaft. File down and polish any burrs or rough spots.
2. Measure the diameter on an unworn portion of the shaft where the sleeve will be positioned. Measure in three positions
and average the measurements in case the shaft is out of round. If the average diameter is within the range for a given
sleeve size, there is sufficient press-fit built into the sleeve to keep it from sliding or spinning. No adhesive is required.
3. If the shaft is deeply scored, fill the groove with a powdered metal epoxy type filler. Install the sleeve before the filler hardens.
4. If the groove does not require filling, apply a light layer of a non-hardening sealant to the inside diameter surface of the sleeve.
5. Determine how far back the sleeve must be positioned to cover the old seal wear tracks. The sleeve must be placed over the worn area, not just bottomed or left flush with the end of the shaft.
6. If the flange should be removed after installation, cut it from the outside diameter into the radius in one location. The flange end of the sleeve goes on the shaft first. Place installation tool over the sleeve.
7. Gently tap the centre of the tool until the sleeve covers the worn surface. If the installation tool supplied with the sleeve is too short, a length of pipe or tubing with a squared-off, burr-free end can be used. Be sure that the inside diameter of the pipe is the same as that of the installation tool.
8. Make sure that the sleeve is installed so that its outside edge is seated on the full shaft diameter, not resting in the chamfer area.
9. If the flange was cut for removal, use a pair of long-nosed pliers to grasp the flange away from the installed sleeve and twist it into a coil. The flange will break loose along the tear-off groove.
10. After the sleeve is installed, check again for burrs that could damage the seal.
11. Lubricate the end of the sleeve before installing the seal.
12. Proceed with seal installation.
Important note: Never use heat to install SKF Speedi Sleeve

Spoke to a lady on the phone who was very knowledgeable, whether you have them reading from textbooks or searching on Google I don't know! But she seemed to know what she was talking about, very polite to say the least. Told me which links to follow when I explained what it was I needed and the order was processed within a few minutes. The telephone number is an 01942 so its FREE unlike many other online retailers. I wasn't once kept on hold... I could continue to praise you over and over again but unfortunately I have my breakfast to make. THANKS anyway and I shall be back when the need next arises. All the best, Jon
