HRC Coupling Assemblies with Chloroprene Rubber (Fire Resistant) Insert

HRC couplings link shafts together, end to end, for power transmission applications; in addition, they are sometimes used for the attachment of fly wheels. They consist of two interlocking halves, with a cushioning insert between and each half locking to its section of the shaft by means of a tapered locking bush, which are available separately. A separate selection of bushes allows a range of shaft diameters to be accommodated in the same housing.

The cushion insert is usually a natural derivative of rubber; however, in situations where there are hazards from inflammables or other potential complications from any build-up of static electricity, a FRAS (fire resistant anti-static) product should be preferred. This range consists of a variety of HRC coupling assemblies with fire resistant chloroprene rubber inserts.

Although this material is commonly referred to as chloroprene rubber, it is a fully synthetic polymer. Polychloroprene is also known by the name Neoprene, a trade name given to the material by American company EI du Pont de Nemours and Company, which has been in chemical manufacturing since 1882 and developed nylon, Teflon, Lycra and Kevlar. The material is more hardwearing and has better temperature and electrical resistance than natural rubber.

Whichever type of insert your coupling uses, all our products are guaranteed to deliver excellent vibration absorption, durability, wear-protection for the coupling, and shock protection. Temperature tolerance is reliably in the range -17? to +70?C. Some products exceed this range, so contact us if you anticipate more extreme operating conditions.

Note that our HRC coupling assemblies with fire resistant chloroprene rubber inserts are available in different combinations, depending on how you need to attach or access your shafts. Each flange housing section can be pre-machined for an outward facing tapered locking bush, an inwardly facing tapered locking bush, or with just a pilot shaft ready for the machining of your choice. These three types can be used in any combination.

Bushes are secured in place with grub screws, which allows some fine tuning of the torque securing the shaft. To achieve the maximum power transmission capability, longevity and smooth running of coupled shafts, accurate alignment and adjustment of torque is important. Guidance on precisely how to do this can be provided by our well-trained staff. If you are not familiar with fitting procedures, Simply Bearings is always happy to provide guidance. Fitting diagrams and some data on rotational speed and power transmission tolerances is available under the technical tab in most individual product descriptions.
