Ball Transfer Units

Ball transfer units consist of ball bearings mounted inside a cylindrical container. One larger bearing protrudes from the top and is supported by many smaller bearings inside the container. These units are frequently used in airport luggage handling systems, industrial manufacturing operations and general conveyance systems.
They are generally installed in arrays referred to as 'ball transfer tables', working in tandem to allow the swift transport of objects; however, the average person may be more familiar with a ball bearing transfer unit as seen in place of wheels on some suitcases. Their ability to move in any direction makes them much more effective for this purpose than the more common caster wheels, which have to be aligned toward the direction of travel and tend to break fairly easily.
Our ball bearing transfer unit range is, for the most part, manufactured by IGUS, a German technical firm renowned for uncompromising precision and outstanding quality in its work. IGUS's bearing transfer units use polymer-based components, providing low friction coefficients in a lubricant-free operation requiring minimal maintenance.
Polymer is well-suited for low-load bearing environments and for handling sensitive items, such as in the pharmaceutical and food and beverage industries.
