Self-Aligning Ball Bearings
Self-aligning ball bearings are double-row radial bearings that can't be separated. Both rows of balls are able to rotate in parallel within an outer ring, which makes them especially good at compensating for alignment errors between the housing and shaft caused by machining and mounting. It also means they run cool and are self-centring.
Applications that commonly use double row self-aligned bearings are track and guidance systems, cranes and elevator equipment. They are also used in rail, automotive and transport and in agricultural machinery, making self-aligning ball bearings one of the most versatile types of bearing available.
At Simply Bearings we stock a wide variety of double row self-aligned bearings, including tapered bore and cylindrical bore types in both imperial and metric measurements. Rubber sealed versions are also available. These protect the bearing from dirt and moisture in the surrounding environment, but at the expense of more limited self-alignment.
We stock budget self-aligning ball bearings and also bearings from major brands including SKF, Timken and NSK. For harsh environments, such as where there are high temperatures or high speeds, we can supply C3 self-aligning bearings. These are made of sintered bronze, are corrosion resistant and self-lubricating, and have additional clearances to allow for expansion; however, they should only be used to replace an existing C3 bearing - there is no advantage to using them in place of other types.
