VB Classical V-Belts 5 - 6 - 8mm

Our VB Classical V belts have a classical trapezoidal profile and come in a range of small sizes from 5mm by 3 mm, in cogged or raw edged variations. They are highly engineered in order to be suitable for a wide diversity of applications, and are often found in compressors, motors, mowers, milling machines, mixers, air tools and power tools, pumps and agricultural equipment.

Sizing

Our smallest has a profile of 5mm width and 3mm height, The 5x3 is often demarcated a VB-5, the 6x4 as VB-6 or VB Y, and the 8x5 as VB-8. Other sizes in this range include the 10x6, which is sometimes labelled as a VB Z. After that you are in the more normal range of sizes that use the standard belt sizing labels - A, B, C, D, E - where VB A starts at 13x8mm.

The second number in our v-belt designations represents the inside length of the belt, which is confirmed by a suffix of "Li. So for example VB-8x850-Li is an 8mm wide, classic profiled v-belt with an inside length of 850mm.

There are alternative designations for v-belts, so if in doubt call us for help. VB belts should not be confused with V series belts, also known as wedge or harvester belts.

Applications

These VB Classical V belts are intended for fractional horsepower loads at high speeds round small diameter sheaves or pulleys and over short to moderate distances. Belt profiles should be matched to pulley diameters. For example, an 8x5 belt requires pulleys of minimum diameter 40mm. Using a pulley smaller than the minimum diameter causes shear forces on the belt and extra heating.

These belts are quiet in operation, providing excellent power transmission whilst cushioning your motor and bearings against load changes. Our belts conform to v-belt construction standards such as BS 3790, DIN 2215 and ISO 4184. They are oil, ozone and abrasion resistant with good temperature resistance and offer durability and safety at a low cost.

In most cases their engineering is sufficiently high specification for their use in matched sets for multiple v-belt drives subject to high shock loads. Ideally look for a S=C PLUS designation for this application but call us for advice - we can supply v-belts matched to any purpose, and all our VB Classical V belts are fully guaranteed.

When is the Best Time to Replace V-belts?

Before they break is the best answer. Inspect your belts regularly looking for cracks. Not only is an unanticipated break inconvenient, but broken belts have been known to damage engines. Both too much tension or slippage will accelerate wear and your belt should be shielded from contaminants such as airborne material.

As these smaller belts are not always easy to find, we recommend you keep replacements to hand ready for your regular engine maintenance.
