Whilst the diameter was very accurate, the length was too long to fit in the slot. And so I shortened a couple 2 or 3mm it with and angle grinder (not very technical, but it worked as you will see).
Once shortened they fitted, perfectly. My impact drill now works perfectly again.
JCB who manufactured the drill simply didn't want to know and were completely unable and unwilling to help in any way - they couldn't even recommend a repair shop. They claimed to stock no spares at all.
So thank you Simply Bearings - you have saved me scrapping out the drill and replacing it at around £150 !!!
