Nachi-Fujikoshi are a venerable Japanese tooling company that have been manufacturing quality tools since at least 1928. Originally called just Fujikoshi, the Nachi brand name was adapted from the phrase "Kumano Nachi Taisha" - a Shinto shrine - after they received praise from the Emperor of Japan. The parent company now comprises some 50 subsidiary firms. In the European market, most Nachi branded products are supplied by their German subsidiary, which itself has been in existence for more than 50 years. Nachi Europe are well-known for their bearings, cutting tools, hydraulic components and industrial robots.

Nachi made their first rolling bearing in 1939 and they are still considered some of the best in the world. One important element in this success is that Nachi exercise complete in-house production control, overseeing every step from the steel production plant onward - through pressing, heat treating, sintering, surface treatment, grinding, finishing and final assembly - and have innovated their own patent methods within each production step. Their later success in the hydraulics industry, and then the robotics industry, is due to the quality and consistency of their bearings - first and foremost.

One reason for the popularity of Nachi bearings with end-users is the ease with which they can be fitted and then adjusted in service. A lot of difficult torque adjustments are avoided thanks to their precise preset preloads. Some, like many of their thrust bearings, are easy to dismantle into parts to make them easier to manipulate into position and then reassemble in place. Using their double row angular bearings means that axles can even be set at an angle, or flex in service. In addition, their many pre-assembled bearing units can almost always eliminate any necessity for engineers to create their own housings on-site.
