If inventors could be given saint status, our vote would surely go to Commander Lumley Robinson, inventor of the original Jubilee® clip. No other simple affordable invention has rescued more vehicles, saved more lives or solved more frustrating engineering problems than his trusty invention. Commander Robinson (RN) devised his trusty worm drive hose clip in 1921. It may not have been the first clip in the world, and it certainly wasn't to be the last, but Robinson perfected it and produced it to the highest standards at the most affordable prices.

Commander Robinson was born in Leeds, but his family moved to Gillingham as a result of his posting to Chatham dockyards by the Royal Navy. The Jubilee® clip is still made there today and the L. Robinson Company remains a family business. Despite the nautical connection, the company forged a much-publicised relationship with the RAF. Commander Robinson's widow ran the company through the war years and famously donated a spitfire to the RAF that was thereafter called "the Robinson fighter".

Their connection was maintained over the following years and the company boasts that Jubilee® clips were used in Harrier jump jets and in Concorde. With those references behind it, why would you use a lesser brand? Top-quality is maintained by sourcing the best raw materials from trusted suppliers and relying on their many years of in-house tool development, specialist expertise and cutting-edge machinery. All their products are rigorously tested and quality certified by independent bodies (for example, their key products receive the BS5315 kite mark and have Lloyds Register approval for use in marine and off-shore applications).

Since the original clip, Robinsons have developed additional surface treatments and diversified the range. The company now makes clip products in various widths and sizes, in mild steel, 316 stainless steel, electroplated and galvanised versions, with extra high torque screw fittings or bolted (e.g. the 'Superclamp'), rubber-lined, or wing-headed (for hand tightening). They also offer 'P' clips and 'O' clips, quick-release straps and boot clips for CV joints. The company also offer a small range of professional tools related to their main product range. This includes high-quality clip drivers, flexidrivers and flexiband tools, and side-closing pincers.
